Neighbors Who Build
At United South End Settlements (USES), we build strength — of neighborhood, of community and of individuals. Located in the center of Boston, one of America's greatest cities, we are at the heart of that greatness. For more than a century, USES has provided key programs and services to help thousands of urban children, teens, adults and seniors realize their full potential.

We strengthen and support strong families.
We help neighbors recognize common bonds and acknowledge differences. Through our unique blend of educational opportunities and innovative cross-cultural enrichment and arts programs, we build strong bridges — across the city and beyond.
We are one of the nation's renowned "settlement houses," founded in the 19th century to initiate positive changes to address the complex needs of the time. Traditional settlement houses brought people of privilege into the poorest neighborhoods to live and work side by side with their less fortunate neighbors, mostly immigrants, from birth to death. The vision was to develop each person's strengths, not just to provide services from the outside.

Today we continue to build up people
— of all ages, backgrounds and income levels — who work, play and live together in Boston's vibrant neighborhoods of the South End and Lower Roxbury. For a hundred years and counting, we have offered programs that tap the promise within every person. One person, one family at a time, we continue to change lives — and the world.
